DESCRIPTION
This school took the shape of mini courses given by two main speakers:
  1. Erwin Bolthausen - one of the guests of the Program of invitations - gave a 10-hour course on popular topics such as Random Walks in Random Environments and related topics.

  2. Benjamin Schlein, (Hausdorff Chair at the University of Bonn) focused his course on Large random matrices and on the issue of Universality.

The main question for both courses was: what is the impact of correlations on the behaviour of random systems?

In the case of E. Bolthausen’s course, the fundamental question is to classify the behaviour of random walks in random environments (diffusive versus non-diffusive behaviour, which corresponds to a breakdown of the law of the central limit).

In the case of B. Schlein's course, the same question arises with regard to the law of eigenvalues of random matrices: in this case too, the strong dependencies and correlations give rise to surprising behaviour, which is beginning to be better understood. B. Schlein is one of the main aexperts in recent developments on this subject.
