DESCRIPTION
Research in mathematics and artistic experience have much in common but catching this much precisely is hard or maybe even impossible. The simple comparisons are very tempting : art and math are creative endeavours, they have structure as well as are
exible in some regards, they ask for time and patience, sometimes they flourish from collaborations, and sometimes one makes revolutions alone. During this week, we would like to explore the relations between mathematics and arts by directly experiencing them. The goal of this workshop is to foster collaborations inside the communities of artists and mathematicians, in order to establish a common language. We plan to reunite a small group of ten mathematicians (interested in art) and ten artists (interested in mathematics). The workshop will be organised by the participants themselves, with activities aiming to explore differrent mathematical and artistic notions and tools. We aim for the most rich possible palette of profiles of artists. We plan to shoot a report on the workshop in a form of a film. The five day workshop will consist of following different activities : • math plenary lectures on math concepts, history and challenges • art plenary lectures • working groups (ateliers, laboratoires) on dfferent math and art subjects • art performances • short challenges to make a project together • free exchange times |
