The idea of this Chair dates back to 2011, under Patrick Foulon as Director of CIRM. The International Officer at CIRM has the overall coordination of the Jean-Morlet Chair (publicity materials, dedicated websites, calls for proposals, etc.). CIRM overlooks the process of selection of candidates and organizes all aspects of the appointment with Aix-Marseille University.

CIRM helps to organize all events of the Chair and financially supports a high proportion of participants (around 85) with board and lodging subsidy. Organizational and infrastructure needs are arranged with the International Officer as well as other members of staff at CIRM (Events, Budget, Accommodation etc.).

The Jean-Morlet beneficiaries have access to two dedicated offices and to a house on the campus during their stay in residence.
